Riverview Gardens’ Earn-A-Bike program is an opportunity for community members to work together to address a common barrier to employment and community engagement, providing low cost, reliable, and low maintenance transportation to people who need a bike. Participants do not have to be enrolled in any other programming at Riverview Gardens. Self-identified people in need of a bicycle volunteer 15 hours in any capacity at Riverview Gardens in exchange for ownership of a bicycle and safety gear (lock, light, and helmet). Once earned, a bicycle can be brought back to the Earn-A-Bike shop for free repairs and tune-ups.
To get started, attend a new volunteer orientation and get started right away.
The program has been growing steadily since it was started in 2013 as a way to remove transportation barriers for our community members:
The program is expertly run by 6 bicycle experts and enthusiasts who volunteer hundreds of hours of their time each year to repair bikes and help people in our community roll forward. All bicycles and safety gear are donated, and the safety gear is new.
If you are interested in donating a bicycle, supplies or tools, these items can be dropped off at the Riverview Gardens Community Center, 1101 S. Oneida Street, Appleton, WI 54915, Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.
