Our Earn-A-Bike program is an opportunity for community members to work together to address a common barrier to employment by providing low cost and reliable transportation to people in need. The program started in 2013 to address our mission and has steadily grown to support all community members interested in earning a bicycle. Over 150 people earn a bike each year!
We invite anyone in the community to volunteer 15 hours at Riverview Gardens® in exchange for a commute-worthy bicycle and safety gear, including a lock, light and helmet. Once earned, a bicycle can be brought back to the Earn-A-Bike shop for free, lifetime repairs and tune ups.
The program is run by bicycle mechanics and enthusiasts who volunteer hundreds of hours of their time each year to repair bikes and help people in our community.
To earn a bike, create an online profile and register for a volunteer orientation on our Volunteer page. After you attend an orientation, you can register to volunteer at any time. Once you reach 15 hours, notify a Riverview Gardens staff member to get your bike!
All bicycles and safety gear are donated thanks to the generosity of this community. If you have a bicycle, safety gear or tools to donate, you can bring it at any time to our Bike Donation Drop Off at the intersection of S. Oneida Street and E. Harrison Street, across the street from Houdini’s Escape Gastropub. You will pull into a gravel, circle drive where there is a wooden corral for donations.
For a tax receipt, please print and return our in-kind donation form or stop by our Community Center at 1101 S. Oneida Street, Appleton, WI 54915.
