Riverview Gardens, Inc. Offers Innovative Summer ServiceWorks for Youth Program
Appleton, WI (May 19, 2015) – Riverview Gardens, Inc. announced its 2015 Summer ServiceWorks
for Youth Program. Summer ServiceWorks for Youth is a no-cost, unique opportunity for rising 9th-12th grade students in the Fox Valley to engage in service learning and leadership training with the social mission of Riverview Gardens.
“We are proud that this year’s summer youth program includes a partnership with the Appleton Area School District,” said Kelly Nutty, Riverview Gardens’ Director of Resource Management. AASD students can receive between .5 and 1 credits for participating in the program. “Being a part of ServiceWorks for Youth means working hard, having fun, getting dirty and discovering the difference high school students can make in our community. In this program, participants engage in leadership training, learn about urban farming/gardening, community engagement, social justice, and they will have opportunities to earn a bicycle and receive recognition and awards for volunteer service.”
The 8-week program is June 15-August 9, 2015, with a graduation and celebration during the week of August 10. General schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am-12:30pm, including a healthy, farm lunch.
Space is limited. There is no cost to participate. Riverview Gardens, Inc. is a financially self-sustaining job-training program for people in need, using an urban farm in a park-like setting in downtown Appleton, WI. Riverview Gardens engages Fox Valley residents in community stewardship and collaborate with local outreach organizations in ending poverty, homelessness and unemployment in the greater community.
