Recyclist Bicycle Company Supports Riverview Gardens Earn-A-Bike Program

Through Buy-One-Give-One Opportunity

Appleton, WI (November 7, 2016) – Riverview Gardens, and Recyclist Bicycle Company in Kaukauna, announce an exciting opportunity to support new bicycle riders in our community. Between now and December 31, 2016, purchase a bicycle light or lock at Recyclist, and Recyclist will donate a light or lock to someone in need through Riverview Gardens’ Earn-A-Bike program.

Riverview Gardens’ Earn-A-Bike program is an opportunity for all of us to work together to address a common barrier to employment and community engagement by providing low cost, reliable, and low maintenance transportation to people who need a bike. Those in need of a bicycle volunteer 15 hours in any capacity at Riverview Gardens in exchange for ownership of a bicycle and safety gear (lock, light, and helmet). Once earned, a bicycle can be brought back to the Earn-A-Bike shop for free repairs.

“The Earn-A-Bike program gives people a hand up, not a hand out, while helping them remove barriers,” said Kelly Nutty, Riverview Gardens’ Director of Resource Management. “So far this year, 137 people in need have earned bicycles and safety gear, and dozens more are earning bikes now. We are so grateful for our partnership with Recyclist. Their buy-one-give-one program is a great way for all of us to work together to remove transportation barriers for the people we serve.”

Sean Wardall, co-owner of Recyclist, said “We were excited to approach Riverview Gardens with this opportunity to give back. It is important for us in the bike riding community to help new riders create safe riding habits. Lights and locks allow our community members experiencing homelessness and living in poverty to fully use their only transportation.” “All it takes is the purchase of a light or lock to help a fellow community member get a job, keep a job, support their family, or volunteer in our community,” said Lora Glasel, co-owner of Recyclist. “We hope customers will join us in being a part of the solution by purchasing a bike light or lock for someone special during the holidays, and we will give another one to someone earning a bike at Riverview Gardens.”

Riverview Gardens’ mission is to provide job training for people in need, to transform their lives and our community.
